Re: LJUBLJANA, SLOVENIA
Went on a day trip from Italy via Trieste in the late 80s early 90’s. It was still Yugoslavia then so we had a soldier getting on the coach at the border kalashnikov in hand checking passports. We went to the caves which were amazing. Got some weird roller coaster down the cave like the thing from india Jones & the temple of doom to get to the (Stalagmites).

Remember my mum buying a box of milk tray in the souvenir shop for £8 (back then) and my dad going mental. “We could have got em for £1.50 in stepney”

Re: LJUBLJANA, SLOVENIA
I went last year with my wife and stayed in an Airbnb apartment (which we usually do when in cities, much better value than hotels). The centre of Ljubljana is small enough to walk to most places, and has a lot of of Empire architecture. It's laid back and relatively inexpensive. The whole country is within easy reach of the capital by car (or I imagine by public transport) but as you probably only have time for one day trip, I'd do the Postojna Caves and nearby Predjama Castle. A joint ticket covers both: if you are driving park for free at the Castle and get the free shuttle bus to the caves and back. Allow 2 hours for each attraction. Others recommend Lake Bled but to be honest I found it overcrowded and not particularly memorable.

I have a house there so have been going several times a year for the best part of 20 years. Just came back a week ago.

If you send me your email address I will send you the same information I sent to One Iron last year.

Lovely place for a wander. Really like it.

Eat here - https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Restaurant_Review-g274873-d4520377-Reviews-or250-Sarajevo_84-Ljubljana_Upper_Carniola_Region.html - it's Bosnian food and therefore not exactly local, but it's absolutely wonderful.

Drink here - http://www.metelkovamesto.org/. Weird former army barracks. Full of weirdos. Weird.

I've never made it to Lake Bled but it's doable in a day and people rave about it. Looks beautiful.

It's where Domzale play so a few will have been. Very nice town, clean and reasonable priced. plenty of cafes and bars with a river setting.

Re: LJUBLJANA, SLOVENIA
Postojna caves are good as is Bled as others have said. If you like horses the Lipican horse stud is worth a visit. If not you'll be bored shitless so don't.bother.

I went to Ljubljana itself for just a few hours in 1984 when it was still Yugoslavia ,they all seemed to be terribly poor is my main recollection.

I bet its different nowadays.

Lake Bled is nice.
They like their casinos.
I'm pretty sure one iron went there recently, or is going to go.
